<div style="text-align: justify;">
Yes I've been so quiet some friends have rung up to check I'm still kicking. Guess I must be old then. Swallows are here and got a mega on Sunday of two Red legged Partridge in next doors garden.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
That brings the lockdown total to 64 as I managed to get Garden Warbler and Chiffchaff near the White Swan. Keeping a sharp eye out for Whitethroat and still missing Grey Partridge. Also hoping the Big Waters Osprey strays this way but doubt it will. No Swifts yet.</div>

All just a blur at the moment. Watched the female Blackbird build her nest in my killer Berberis nest to the living room window. Fifth year in a row the pair have nested year generally successfully. Not got the mud lining yet which may be a challenge now its turned dry.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
Wednesday was the day with Willow Warbler singing as I opened the front door, Stock Dove in the rear paddock then Swallow just before lunch and more surprisingly House Martin immediately after. Normally at least a week between first Swallow and first House Martin.</div>

Then yesterday finally the Canada Geese flew past and I'm pretty sure this morning a Gropper was reeling although a little windy but that would be the 60 for the lockdown list. So Swift to come with Snipe and Whitethroat a possibility but Grey Partridge is a huge miss to date.</div>

No 52 on the lockdown list thanks to GB for the quite literal 'heads up' as it drifted west over Dinnington later to be seen elsewhere in the city but having chased many it was my first Prestwick Carr sighting although many others have seen them. Also yesterday out of my visual range Green Sandpiper which if lucky I might get on passage to Banks Pond and 2 Yellow Wagtails near Mayfair House.</div>

Yes 51 the lockdown total with close up Great Spotted Woodpecker and distant Grey Heron on Thursday and a pair of Mute Swans yesterday, The melanistic Pheasant even came close enough for a record shot. Still no migrants although Chiffchaff in the village on my daily 'exercise' to the Post Office.</div>

The lockdown list stuck at 48 or 49 if I'm allowed to tick melanistic (P.c.tenebrosus) Pheasant. Working in the garden got Willow Tit and an overflying Linnet in song but yesterday was wall to wall Woodpigeon. Four that should be bankers are missing. Been scouring the field edges for Grey Partridge but if the weather gets warmer should get the males calling.</div>

This is my Mum in front of the netty circa 1949. the netty 3ft wide 5ft deep is the door on the right with the hole over the latch having a string through attached to the lock inside so you could release anybody stuck inside. The entrance to the yard was to the right and the door on the left is the coalhouse. The brick on left of picture is the wall to the scullery.</div>

Day four of lockdown and the from the garden list is 35 including the nine Greenland White fronted Geese that feed on the Carr every night returning to Big Waters for a wash and brush up around 8am. Nice to see them demonstrating social distancing.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Looking at the stocks I can survive 28 days without going out. Will run out of toilet roll and washing powder after the weekend but if nobody sees me I can stink as much as I like. There's still good old soap, water and the left hand!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I know the water authority don't want you to do it but I am of an age that when I visited the grandparents at Burradon there was still newspaper on the hook in the outside netty (toilet for those not of these parts). If you wanted soft you had to take the roll out with you from the house because if left in the loo it went damp. There's a hint to make newspaper comfortable....dampen it.</div>

In honour of the long staying Eastern Yellow Wagtail (16 days to date) on my patch I resurrect this blog and hope to maintain concentration long enough to be of interest. Colour of the bird very much influenced by the weather but in good sunlight the underside is certainly tinged in yellow. Feeding pretty much constantly on blood worms in the same field it is moving with the Pied Wagtails so can go missing but at least will get warning of predator attack. As for humans, not remotely worried about them and have been as close as five feet when it came into the hedge in front of me.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Working away Whats app dinged (12.03) and I was aghast seeing ADMc had Black throated Thrush on my patch. He got dogs abuse as I left the house noting bird headed toward golf course. Horse paddocks are good for feeding thrushes but it's blowing a hoolie so only the paddock at Mill Farm would be likely. I parked up and as I approached the field a grey bird, thrush like flew, across the field into the hedge line (12.40) No white wing flashes and too delicate for a Fieldfare my suspicions were aroused. I took two shots but couldn't see the bird on my review screen. Note for future twitches. This bird is almost invisible in when perched in trees.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5cCU26NT6pRHaN3kU0ajZM1UjYrbf1XeR1SpI1Ib4vx9y_qpeU2Bm1IFcIeq5Siq4Bu17EU3h9qpo2nd7cbby9Oevcxl8uGj5_ucx7Vxmc8938yAU6H9mmcVdj_5EcO1c51tIUQ23M4CQ/s1600/bttre.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="261" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5cCU26NT6pRHaN3kU0ajZM1UjYrbf1XeR1SpI1Ib4vx9y_qpeU2Bm1IFcIeq5Siq4Bu17EU3h9qpo2nd7cbby9Oevcxl8uGj5_ucx7Vxmc8938yAU6H9mmcVdj_5EcO1c51tIUQ23M4CQ/s400/bttre.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The bird then dropped to the ground and started feeding. Obviously grey and dark to the front with white underbelly Collins was checked and putative report put out (12.49) along with back up pictures. Following last years debacle with Dotterel I was very cautious about giving a positive ID. It seemed to take an age for somebody to arrive and in that time I had the bird all to myself feeding. Not as active of bouncy as a Fieldfare, much more deliberate and on three occasions fly catching with a somewhat uncoordinated two footed jump. No scope so couldn't really add much on plumage.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgtB65Gru6FERFASv8v3RPRD8v2yGVCYye-vP4eL1laVcwZUvubGRPT4Ka5AerDJDDzzMBKv-I4k4TVFId8mVMCoQPEqoZQMIxAwRLyUG4YGGsPGZKLbaJhnimgsHxJuIeSbAiWe6C0ACpQ/s1600/btgr.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="273" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgtB65Gru6FERFASv8v3RPRD8v2yGVCYye-vP4eL1laVcwZUvubGRPT4Ka5AerDJDDzzMBKv-I4k4TVFId8mVMCoQPEqoZQMIxAwRLyUG4YGGsPGZKLbaJhnimgsHxJuIeSbAiWe6C0ACpQ/s400/btgr.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Eventually PS arrived and the ID was confirmed Whats app, Birdguides & Twitter (13.24). Joined by GM, HG and ACwl we watched the for some minutes before it flew up into the hedgerow out of sight (13.40). Others then started arriving only to be informed the bird was not showing. When I left (14.10) there must have been twenty or more gathered with at least ten en route up the road. Gladly the bird showed again (14.27) giving views to the many before disappearing onto the golf course (14.32). So sorry for the many that turned up afterwards.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">As developers proceed with the trashing of the green belt around every town and village in Northumberland I dug this up from my late fathers records when he worked for JTBell (now Bellway). It is a 1956 OS marked up in the early 1960's showing the limits of the green belt and the first tracts of land to be released forming what is now Newbiggin Hall, Kenton and Kingston Park.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Having made a living from this stuff for many years I suppose I shouldn't complain but the failure by council planners to redevelop smaller infill brownfield sites with affordable homes while cow towing to the developer ideal of middle to upper class dwellings expanding into the countryside is a disgrace.</span></div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"> I almost didn't bother going for the Pacific Diver or Loon as we should call it as all reports were of dot in the distance type but when the bird moved onto Ladyburn Lake at Druridge Bay CP I reckoned better views would be had and I wasn't disappointed. In fact the bird was ridiculously close.</span></div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Those non birders may be having problems finding it in the guidebooks. It (Gavia pacifica) was fairly recently split from Black throated (Gavia arctica) and indeed this bird originally found by TL at Blyth and was ID'd as Black throated till AC called Pacific when better views were finally obtained at East Chevington. The deciding feature in this first winter is the lack of a white patch at waterline toward the flanks and if an adult it would have a distinctive chin strap.</span></div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">It was a nice neat medium size bird with a distinctive clean diving style but on this occasion rarely staying underwater for significant length of time generally following a circular pattern around the edge of the west end of the lake unperturbed by dogs or the gathered throng.</span></div>

Back after six months of twittering. 2016 saw 112 ssp for me on the Carr with addition of Little Egret to the list an overwintering Great Grey Shrike and the late addition of White fronted Geese on 28:12. This post will remain photoless as there have been at least three Short-eared Owls present since 27:11 but never hunting in daylight. Crepuscular MY ARSE</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Young Tree Sparrows in my garden this morning being fed by the pair that nested in a box normally used by Blue Tits although last year it contained Bees. Three young at least all a bit soggy due to the weather but being well tended by the parents.</span></div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Interestingly Blue and Great Tits have been rare in the garden over the last two weeks returning with young over the last couple of days indicating breeding in the locality but not particularly close. The garden list this year isn't bad with two of three nest each for Starling and Blackbird successful with the Blackbirds still going strong but no second attempts by the Starlings. Two Jackdaw nests and five or more House Sparrows all now fledged and young Robin seen in garden but couldn't confirm the nest site. </span></div>
